Therefore, using effective air purification equipment is particularly important to reduce the impact of pollutants on the human body.

In this regard, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has set strict standards for air purifiers and promotes energy-efficient products through the Energy Star program. This both helps reduce consumers’ home energy consumption and improves indoor air quality. At the same time, the California Air Commission has also formulated more stringent air quality standards at the state level, reflecting the state's high emphasis on environmental protection.

In September 2021, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) released a draft revision of technical regulations for air purifiers, aiming to further improve the energy efficiency performance of such products. Under the Energy Policy and Conservation Act of 1975 (EPCA), DOE is taking steps to ensure that air purifiers on the market meet energy-saving requirements. This is especially important because continuously running home appliances can significantly increase a home's energy consumption.

In addition, the Appendix FF test method, which will come into effect in April 2023, marks a new level of performance testing and energy efficiency requirements for portable air purifiers. This means manufacturers exporting to the US market must meet higher technical specifications to ensure their products can effectively clean the air and keep energy consumption low.

It is worth noting that every state in the United States also has its own environmental protection legislation, such as California’s Bill 65. This law requires manufacturers to disclose harmful substances that may be in their products so that consumers can make informed choices. In August 2023, three new chemicals identified as carcinogens by IARC were added to the list, indicating that the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) is paying close attention to potential public health risks.

In general, the U.S. government’s technical requirements for air purifiers are comprehensive and strict, aiming to provide consumers with efficient, safe, and energy-saving products. Initiatives like this demonstrate the United States' commitment to environmental protection and public health. However, in the face of global air pollution problems, countries need to work together to share scientific and technological progress and formulate unified international standards in order to achieve broader air quality improvements.
