Impact of air pollution on public health

The impact of air pollution on public health is becoming increasingly apparent, especially in some densely populated and highly industrialized areas. As one of the states with the most stringent air quality standards in the United States, California's government has set certain thresholds for the technical requirements and product standards of air purifiers in order to improve the living environment of residents.

First, from a national level, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has clear requirements for air purifiers, and these regulations are based on the Clean Air Act. The bill aims to control emissions of air pollutants and protect public health and the environment. According to EPA regulations, air purifiers need to have certain performance indicators and use relevant testing methods to prove their purification effect.

However, California’s standards tend to be stricter. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) promulgated regulations limiting ozone emissions from indoor air purification devices on October 18, 2008. This regulation has special regulations for air purifiers that may produce ozone. Manufacturers must meet the ozone testing standards of UL 867, and products that rely solely on mechanical filtration also need to meet corresponding performance standards.

In addition, California has adopted the Energy Star program, an energy-saving certification program jointly promoted by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the EPA. Air purifiers that receive the Energy Star label not only effectively remove particulate matter, harmful gases, and other pollutants from indoor air, but also consume less energy during operation, helping to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

For manufacturers from other countries, as well as other U.S. states, to enter the California market, they need to ensure that their products comply with California’s strict regulations. This includes not only energy efficiency and environmental protection requirements, but also product safety and quality standards. In order to meet these requirements, manufacturers need to continuously conduct technology research and development and product improvements to adapt to the changing regulatory environment.

The California government’s high standards for air purifiers reflect their strong commitment to improving air quality and protecting public health. This rigorous attitude provides a reference for policymakers in other regions and sets an example for the healthy development of the global air purifier industry. At the same time, this also reminds consumers to pay attention to the product's performance indicators and certification information when purchasing air purifiers, and choose truly effective and environmentally friendly products.
