Ozone (O3)

Ozone (O3) is used to remove odours, especially toilet odours, because of its strong oxidation. It can react with many organic compounds and oxidise them to harmless substances, such as water and carbon dioxide. This process is usually accompanied by the elimination of odours.

Chemically, ozone can be decomposed into oxygen (O2), which is a spontaneous process:

2O3 → 3O2

In practical applications, such as in air purifiers or special ozone generators, ozone is produced by electrolysis, ultraviolet radiation or other methods. The generated ozone will then be released into the air, in which it will spread and interact with the odour molecules in the air.

When ozone encounters reducing odour molecules, an oxidation reaction occurs. The specific equations of these reactions depend on the type of odour molecules, but generally speaking, these reactions can be regarded as ozone as an oxidant, oxidising odour molecules into more stable products.

For example, if the smell is caused by ammonia (NH3), the possible reaction is as follows:

2NH3 + O3 → N2 + 3H2O + O2

In this reaction, ammonia is oxidised by ozone into nitrogen and water. Because nitrogen and water are colorless and tasteless, this reaction can effectively remove odours caused by ammonia.

Please note that although ozone is an effective deodorant, because it has certain irritation and potential harm to the human body, it should be used in an unmanned environment or with appropriate safety measures, and avoid long-term contact.http://www.ozonewish.com#Ozone#ozonewish
